James Playsted Wood was born on December 11, 1905 in Brooklyn, New York. He earned his B.A. in 1927 and M.A. in 1933 from Columbia University. James Wood was a instructor and professor of English for 16 years (1930-1946) and assistant to the director of research at Curtis Publishing Company from 1946-1962. He has been an author since 1937.
